Australian volunteers at La Giraudiere

An Australian volunteers in France at La Giraudiere and now writes a testimony for our blog.

“By volunteering at La Giraudiere I have fulfilled a life long dream of living in rural France.  The time spent at La Giruadiere met a lot of my goals on this trip to France.  During my 3-week stay at La Giraudiere I got to play pétanque and practice my French with the welcoming local villagers of Brossac. We ate at an authentic French rural restaurant where a 7 course rural worker’s lunch with wine thrown in was the lunch of the day.

After helping out as a volunteer on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I chose to use one of our long weekends to take a trip to Biarritz, which is so easy with the efficient French train system. Paul, who runs the project, happily drops you off and picks you up for all your necessary transfers to and from Chalais train station.

A bonus was when Paul drove us to the near by village of Aubuterre sur Dronne to see the subterranean monolithic church as our day out tour which is included as part of your stay.

During my time here I assisted with preparing a flyer for an upcoming fund raising event, some social media marketing, gardening, cooking and set up a volunteers recipe book. The volunteer set up and program was so easy to adapt to. All up this unique experience has been <<très bon.>>  I highly recommend you include some time volunteering at La Giraudiere in your next trip to France”.

Aubeterre is one of the plus belle villages de la France and you can read more about this village at Aubeterre Sur Dronne
