TRAIL DU BROSSACAIS

The date as been set for the 8th Trail du Brossacaise. Sunday the 30th June 2013 with the starting point from the Lake in Brossac. The trial is open to all there will be two courses one of 25 kilometers and another for the hardy of 25 kilometers.  For the walkers there is a 13 kilometer randonée. The start is 9.00 in the morning and there will be showering facilities available plus food and drinks.

The trial previously came under the 3B and then later the arm of the LA COMMUNAUTE DE COMMUNES 4B SUD CHARENTE, recently a new association as been formed called Association Trail Du Brossacais who now take full responsibility for the setting up and running of the Trail.

Sam Grace an Australian who volunteered at La Giraudiere in October 2012 .

Sam who had been travelling around Europe during his gap year used the project at La Giraudiere so as to take some time out of his travels. His stay at La Giraudiere surprised him as you will read from his testimonial……,

“This has got to be one of the best French culture immersion programs in France.

Get involved! Staying in hotels and ticking off the tourist sites in the cities is good, but it does not compare whatsoever to living in a village in the middle of the French countryside, getting to know the locals and sharing the whole experience with a bunch of likeminded people. The highlight of my trip would definitely have to be playing petanque in the afternoons and early evenings with a group of beret-wearing, pipe-smoking, red wine-drinking Frenchmen and Madames. It was as French as you can get, an experience for locals, and during my stay at La Giraudiere I was definitely made to feel like a local. Whether it was harvesting the chestnuts, tasting the first jus de raisin of the season, or just enjoying a meal at the local bar come resto, I felt really involved in village life, and I think it’s great that I was a part of rural living because it isn’t a tourist trip, it’s a true French experience. And if you’re not looking for that, why did you come to France!?

I’d thoroughly recommend volunteering or interning at La Giraudiere. Help out with a bit of work and enjoy getting immersed in French culture – you’ll love it.

This year the volunteers working holiday program at La Giraudiere starts on the 1st of March when the first volunteer arrives. This is the first year that the program as started this early normally the first volunteers arrive the 2nd week of April.

As a volunteer group we have again been invited by the comite de fetes de Brossac to help out with the May celebrations and the Bastille celebrations. This will be the forth year that the volunteers from La Giraudiere have given a hand with these fetes. This interaction presents an opportunity to become involved in the local community and improve ones French and confidence in using the language.

Once again we have received enquiries from around the globe from potential volunteers intresting in joining the program and helping out with the project. June and July are becoming booked up but there are plenty of places remaining for the periods March to May and from July to October.

Internship Abroad

La Giraudiere is keeping one place by this year for an internship. The intern would be helping Paul with the day to day running of the project and the programs.

The is a learning internship and  the intern is not paid. You cn intern from 6 -8 weeks prices stat from 455 euros per week and it includes accommodation and meals and a whole lot more.

The internship will center around the volunteers project and will also touch some aspects of the other programs. Apart from learning about the administration side of the project your competence in speaking French and knowledge of the language will be assessed and improved. Each week interns benefit from a half a day lesson in a group and two half a days each week on a one to one basis with our French teachers.
