A Day at the Spa!

We had another slow-paced day in beautiful, but chilly France. In the afternoon, Brenda, Elizabeth and Katie went to the clubhouse by the lake for a day at the spa!  On their way there, they took a walk through town and stopped to bring flowers to Mr. Girarud-The first owner of La Giraudiere.

It was a very relaxing afternoon.  They spent most of the time in the hot tub and seeing how long they could last in the steam room.

After dinner, Paul started a fire for a cosy movie night.  We watched La Ligne Verte, or in English, The Green Mile.

Gabrielle went on her own adventure this weekend.  She rented a car in Bordeaux and her first stop was in St. Emilion.  There she visited a Romanesque church and the ruins of Les Cordeliers church.

Allez Brossac!

It was a lazy day at LG.  We all got to sleep in!

Once we were finally up and moving, Elizabeth was ambitious enough to go out for a run.  Brenda and Katie walked into town to get the daily bread from the local Spar store.

Gabrielle met up with a friend for lunch.

After lunch, Elizabeth and Katie painted an encouraging sign for our favourite team-Brossac EBC!

When Gabrielle returned from her day out, we all went out for dinner in Chalais to get some delicious pizza and roast chicken at O P’tit en K.  Then it was onto St. Severin to watch the Brossac team play.  We brought the freshly painted sign, but it wasn’t quite enough to win today.

We’ll win next time!  On our way home after the game, we stopped in Chalais for a hot chocolate before going to bed.

Pool Sharks!

Even though it was a short work-week, the volunteers here at LG are looking forward to the weekend.

Brenda was the official mum today but Jane was here to help out with the cleaning. Elizabeth also pitched in and made jell-o and bread pudding.

Gabrielle, Elizabeth and Paul finished pouring the last of the cement for the steps this morning!  They look great!  Now we just need a reason to go up them-any ideas?

In the afternoon, Gabrielle took on the task of trimming the hedges out front.

Katie cooked up some Wisconsin mac and cheese for dinner tonight.

After dinner, we went down to the clubhouse at the lake for drinks and games.  We played pool and Paul and Brenda made up the unbeatable team!

Driving a Stick Shift in the Rain.

It is sad to say that it’s three of our friends last workday today.

Before heading off in the rental car, Jim spent his last morning showing Elizabeth how to drive a stick shift-very brave on both accounts!  Elizabeth said that he is a very patient teacher.

Work continued on the steps out back and even Sidney helped out. The cement was mixed and poured for three steps.

They tried to hurry and finish their work before the rain came, but it came too soon.  Luckily, we don’t mind playing in the rain!  It’s probably needed anyway for the LG garden.

Katie picked up the shopping and the business on the internet.

It was both Denise’s and Marisela’s last work day at LG.  Check out Denise’s finished product at:http://school-trips.lagiraudiere.com/frenchtour/

Gabrielle is making a chicken stew for dinner to warm us up from the rainy day.

After dinner Paul taught us a new card game and then proceeded to beat us all!

We’re in for a Scare – a Scarecrow, that is!

Denise worked on the finishing touches of LG’S newest website for Marisela and Katie to promote, as Marisela handed off her post as blog editor. It was Jim’s last full day so he was kept busy by finishing up his work in the shed.

Gabrielle, Brenda, Elizabeth and Paul continued on the steps.  They did the first round of pouring cement.

For dinner it was Jim’s turn to cook, but it was pulled off with a collective effort.  We managed to whip up a stunning paella that pleased everyone!  We all spent the evening together sharing stories of past adventures.

It was Jim’s last night and he couldn’t resist one more joke.  He managed to pull off a hilarious stunt-scaring Elizabeth, Gabrielle and Katie.  It involved a surprise attack out of a window from a flying scarecrow!
