The weekend starts on Friday night at La Giraudiere

Friday night and it is start of the weekend, To-night Jean-Michelle and Endeara are coming to eat and Sergey from Russia was on dinner duty and oh what a nice surprise. Chicken and potatoes and what a sauce and also a superb salad well done Sergey.

Just as we were finishing dinner Emily from Loughborough in the UK arrived a day earlier than we expected. Emily is an old campaigner having been to LG in 2010. It is great to have here back.

Paul arranged for one of the group, Hugh,  to take part in the Football training at USB Brossac the local village club unfortunately he missed a superb dinner but there was a little saved for him. The rest of the group together with our French dinning friends went to play Boules with the Brossac locals. After Boules we took part in a Digestive or two at Saint Bernards.

Rosemary leaves the calm of sunny La Giraudiere for rain and riots in England

Rosemary from Bristol is on her way home after 2 weeks at LG she will be missed and hopefully returns next year. During her time at LG rose volunteered in producing a page describing the LG project and its program in Germany. Rose also helped big time in the clearing of the parc north of LG and her patience in clearing the weeds is to be admired.

Gardening in the Sun

This week our Mum Nessa is enjoying making us all colourful lunches…

A hard mornings work

Always a demand for another pot of tea

Yesterday we also enjoyed the return of the Summer sun and went into the gardens to mow, cut and get a tan!

World Championship Final of Badminton Hosted at La Giraudiere

Last night Sarah came over for dinner and we enjoyed our first taste of Japanese food from our volunteer Hiroko who made Chicken Katsu curry- a dish that will prove hard to top in the coming weeks! After a few glasses of Paul’s homemade Sangria to prepare, we then headed over to our extremely home made professional badminton court. Here, Hollie captured what she could of what can only be described as a game of unmatchable talent and badminton prowess…

August Begins

As August began at La Giraudiere, we said goodbye to Jen, Donal and Nicole who flew back to Ireland and the US. They will all be sorely missed and we wish them all well with whatever they begin back home. This past week has also seen the arrival of some new volunteers from across the globe- Hiroko from Japan, Serjey from Russia and Hugh from the UK.

So what have we all been up to down at LG? Well, our Facebook group is back up and running, Gite 4 nearly has all its tiling finished and Ness has begun her first week as Mum after following the guidance of Nicole last week!

Sunday night also saw the South West host the final of the European Hot Air Balloon races and the LG volunteers went along with Nico and Julien with a quick visit to Angouleme beforehand. The night saw loads of balloons flying up together, a first taste of escargot for the group (even Serjey after some peer pressure), a rather bizarre cabaret show and an amazing firework display to end it all- photos to follow!
