Accommodation and Meals
Accommodation: You will have your own bedroom in one of the apartments at La Giraudiere, unless you indicate that you wished to share with a friend or your partner. Every effort is made to ensure that the accommodation is separate so that males and females are in different apartments. Each apartment has a shower and wash room independent from the other apartments.
The apartments are clean, bright, comfortable and well equipped. Remember this is a volunteers project we are not a 5 star hotel.
Linens & Towels: Towels and sheets are provided. Once a week the bed linens and toweling should be changed.
Food & Meals: All food and meals are included for the weeks you are at La Giraudiere, These consist of-
Breakfast: Cereals, fruit, toast, yogurt, eggs, coffee, tea and juice.
Lunch: Alfresco – salads, meats, cheese, pizza, pasta and quiche (but can vary).
Dinner: Monday to Friday, everyone takes a turn to provide variety of the evening meal.- During a 3 week stay you may have to cook 2 or 3 times, but don’t worry, it’s always a joint effort with plenty of help being provided!
At La Giraudiere the weekend, Saturday & Sunday, is time to do your own thing. As regards meals and food. Always there is something in the larder, freezer and fridges at the house which is at your disposal
Transfers and Excursions
Transportation and Transfers: All arrival and departures transportation to and from Chalais station, as well as trips to Chalais are included. Those requiring transfers to and from Chalais for weekend excursions are also included.
Group Excursions: Once every 2 weeks a group excursion is arranged and provided, therefore during your stay you will benefit from at least one group excursion.
Long weekends: Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday are your days off and ideal for exploring the region! Transfers to and from Chalais train station are included. Remember to budget for those weekends exploring.
French, English and Chinese Lessons: Normally, every Friday morning language lessons are provided by our French and English speaking qualified teachers. Normally these lessons are withuage Lessons the whole group and may encompass either something that you are working on in the project or conversational skills needed to communicate with the local people – all levels are catered for.
Chinese Lessons: New for 2021 is the option of learning Chinese – more information will be posted upon our blog and website

Work materials and supplies: All work materials are provided.
Internet and phone reception: There is free Internet access for laptops, tablets and other devices. You may also use the telephone to receive calls from home but please keep calls to a minimum as broadband in Brossac is not always free.
Advice and training: If there is something in particular that you would like to learn during your stay and feel that we could advise or train you then please ask.
Volunteers’ Certificate: At the end of your stay you will receive a volunteers’ certificate and a reference letter of participation – essential for your CV or Resumé.
Weekly Market Trip: Every Monday morning there is a traditional French market at Chalais. Transport to and from the market is included.
Membership to the Association and it’s alumni
New for 2021 is the putting in place of volunteers alumni for each year. Each participating volunteer will be given membership going back to when the project started in 2008. The membership will attract certain benefits for example a reduced price for members and other benefits. Maybe you would like to volunteer on creating the alumni if so come along and help.

The 2021 volunteers program starts May 2021 and will continue until the 7th October 2021. The recommended volunteering period is 3 weeks but you can apply from 1 – 6 week
